About Gennaro Brooks-Church
I have lived in 35 countries, meaning when I went to the country I had no home elsewhere. Having said that, the little Spanish island of Ibiza has always been close to my heart and I return to it often.
I live a lot in New York with my girlfriend Loretta and daughter Saomi and another on the way. I love/hate New York.
I studied Creative Writing and Comparative Religion at Columbia University in New York. I photographed Roma (Gypsies) for ten years.
I used to build a lot of web 2.0 sites that inspire me and do a lot of good in the world - a lucky combo.
But as of this writing I am really into real estate. I work mostly in rentals in Brooklyn (specifically Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens). I like the immediate effect of getting somebody a nice home and getting paid handsomely for it. This won't last. I have other long term interests.
I was born in 1971 and because I was so old when I was a boy I feel I am getting younger every year. If I continue like this I will soon be so totally immature that none of this will matter and I can sit around on park benches with a silly grin on my face.
I originally picked the web name The Foco because its spirit is a mixture of extreme idealism and brutal reality, two traits that when combined can move mountains. But lately I'm becoming more zen about things and sometimes feel I'd like a web name that is more illusive. I then moved to brookschurch.com because it was so matter of fact.
A large passion is photography. I have a site called romaphotos.com that I am growing more and more. I am increasingly spending more time on exhibiting my Roma photos and I find this to be a really rewarding experience.
I also am doing a lot of work on photographing in Africa.
