Energy from Algae
I am increasingly fascinated by energy and how to make it. Once I realized that my corner restaurant (literally fifty feet away) can provide me with enough cooking oil to convert into gasoline to power my modest driving needs I was totally liberated from the box.
Here in the US, and to a lesser degree everywhere else, we are enslaved into a mentality that gas from the local Exxon Station is the only way to power our mechanical transportation, that Electricity from ConEdison’s power grid is the only way we can light up our house, that gas from KeySpan is the only way we can heat our house….
But these conceptual monopolies are completely erroneous. It is easier than we think to heat our hot water with the sun and drive our cars with water. For me this is the greatest awakening since, well, yesterday when my son was born, you get the point.
Here is a vid about getting vast amounts of energy from algae, which makes total sense. The lower you go in the food chain the more pure the energy gets. Another idea is getting energy from the increasing volume of algae invading the oceans (due to global warming).
