Here is a fantastic documentary of the failed attempt by powerful people backed by the CIA to overtake Venezuela and how the people didn’t let it happen, bringing Hugo Chavez back.

Chavez is clearly not the Bible thumping maniac the mainstream media would have us believe. From what I see in this film he seems dedicated to an open society. A free society. A society that benefits the majority but has a place for voices of the minority to speak up.

This documentary shows how crucial media is in our awareness and perception of reality. The message IS the medium and I am very happy that technology is leveling the field. The mainstream media networks could create a very convincing reality but I don’t know they could stand a chance against the mass of individual media ranging from twitter to blogs, vlogs, text messaging, image uploads, cell phones, and any number of yet undiscovered communication devices.

This documentary is a wonderful insight into the real workings of politics, something that is easily relegated to metaphors and abstractions. But in this film you see real people struggling with real decisions. It is a very heartening film and runs with a plot better than any Hollywood story because at each second you are acutely aware that it is real. This actually happened.

The film makers are consecutively flies on the wall and self conscious participants showing how media both records and shapes history.

ADD in Today’s Hyper World - It could just be Life Overload Syndrome

ADD, Attention Deficit Disorder, is a new “sickness”. It is very common today and increasing in numbers. Whether it always existed and just now is being diagnosed or whether it is really is increasing is up for debate.

Bottom line is there are a lot of people with ADD now.

ADD interests me because the cures for it are useful for everyone. I have been told I have it as well. But I was told by an ADD coach…and by a guy who suffered from ADD until he took this wonder drug that he thinks can solve everyone’s problem. So I’m not convinced I have it.

What I think I have is Life Overload Syndrome

. I just invented that. And I just bought the domain. Psyche!

LOS is when your life is going so fast that there are lots of disconcerting stray ends. No matter how hard you try there is never enough time and/or organizational skill to get rid of that panicky feeling.

There is this sense that the world is moving too fast and you are running, sprinting to keep up. In this environment things don’t get finished, other things don’t get started, and other things don’t get done right. You feel like the little train that could, furiously huffing and puffing while it feels your wheels are spinning…

If any of this relates to you then I have an ADD coach for you. But it could just be Life Overload Syndrome.

Here are Ten things I do to deal with Life Overload Syndrome.

Off the top of my head:

1. Get Enough sleep. Not what you think you need. But what your body truly needs.
2. Eat enough good food. Eat lots of it and often throughout the day.
3. Drink Enough Water. Dehydration is a big cause of fuzzy brains and LOS.
4. Keep Perspective. Your life is short and precious. Soon you will die.
5. Whenever fear enters you, recognize it and tell it to go away.
6. Take control of your life, if not all of it, whatever you can.
7. Your mind and body are connected - change one and the other changes too.
8. You and others are connected - change yourself and they change too.
9. Be realistic but focus on the positive. Its more fun.
10.

The Myth of Security

We live in a world deluded by the belief that humans are an evolved species. Just scratch under the facade, as nature often does with us, and you will see our grand countries, great philosophies, and “evolved” ways crumble like a sand castle under a small wave.

We are but helpless little creatures. I don’t say this in spite or bitterness. I say it soberly. I say it out of respect for the greater forces of the world, such exploding galaxies, as colliding planets, and relatively minuscule floods that can wipe out half a country in a few hours.

Before you accuse the government of not taking care of its citizens when “acts of god” occur, remember that the government’s statements of solace are empty. The world economy and infrastructure is feeble at best, teetering on the brink of collapse by it’s own weight let alone immune from any gusts of wind from nature.

The debacle in New Orleans a three years or so ago was blamed on Bush and Co., and correctly so since they could have at least cared a little, but would it have been much better under smarter leadership?

I think we have gotten way ahead of ourselves. Our “great technological civilization” was built so incredibly fast and is built on very thin ice. And as any polar bear will tell you the ice is melting fast.

I watched a 20 story building go up in four months here in Brooklyn. It is made of match sticks pasted together with glue. Yet it conforms to all codes….

I posted this about a year ago. How right they were! They give a funny and incredibly accurate description of how financial markets work, or don’t. These guys are psychic, or worse, they and everyone else in the financial world knew perfectly well what was coming and didn’t give a shit! Life is a game right to the end, only some win and others don’t.

Are You the 100th Monkey?

I read a book once about how evolutionary events in the world happen at the same time but don’t seem to be connected. For example scientists might notice a group of monkeys in South America that out of nowhere start to clean their food in the river. Around the same time the same activity might be noticed in Asia.

Since the monkeys had no contact with each other the scientists could only speculate that there was some collective consciousness that allowed the monkeys to pass information to each other.

“Hey the food tastes better if you wash it! Tell the guys in Asia!”

You see this all the time with Humans. Right now everyone is on the green thing. But nobody stood up one day and said, “Ok, everyone put on your green hats!”

The green things started all over the place.

Anyway, here are 20 minutes of video that cover a couple thousand years of wisdom. So it only glimpses along the surface and thus the connections they make seem weak in some points. I think this is more because they are fitting so much into the clip rather than the weakess of their points, which I think are strong.

It would take a lifetime to understand what they discuss in this video. But then again, time and space are totally relative so it you are in the right time and place it might only take you a nanosecond to understand what they are saying. I’m not joking.

They talk about the year 2012. It is easy to get excited about these kinds of dates. But I’ve seen a couple of them come and go in my lifetime without any world shattering changes. It is important to not focus on the exact date. These things in my experience happen over time.

If the date 2012 is the end of a thousand year cycle, then the changes started a thousand years ago. Obviously in 2012 almost all the changes have already happened so you ain’t going to see much difference Jan 1st of 2012. People forget that.

When the Dollar collapses where will you be?

The collapse of the Dollar has already started. Like all cycles it happens organically with many incremental moves and a few dramatic ones.

We haven’t seen the dramatic moves yet and most people are either in denial or just haven’t really thought about it.

But the is no doubt about it, the dollar is collapsing.

The big question for me is what does that mean to my life as an American holding mostly Dollars.

If the other poor countries are any indication, and I’ve visited most of them, then it simply means the US is going to get poorer. Less fancy stuff, run down buildings, crumbling infrastructure.

But that is if we continue with the current financial structure.

I’d like to see a new financial structure where less money is made, less stuff is created and people have less, BUT less money is needed, less stuff is created and people are fine with less.

Less physically, that is. Hopefully we have more in the areas of love, life and happiness.

What would that would look like?

For starters I think people would get more sleep and be less stressed out. They would have less need for material pacifiers because the cause of that need would not be there. They would work less. It wouldn’t be called unemployment, though, since work wouldn’t be the central bastion of existence.

You’d have a lot less products. We don’t need 400 different brands of breakfast cereal. Only about 10 of them are worth eating. The other 390 of them are almost identical with different food coloring and packaging.

This means that all that production time spent making those 390 boxes of cereal can be spent on producing something else or simply be downtime.

Look, I don’t know. I’m no economist (like they know shit). But it just seems to make sense:
use less, want less, work less, play more.

Before the industrial revolution people worked all day but now we have machines that can do that. Why did that utopian ideal of a machine workforce never actualize? It seems to make sense.

Thinking green

My mother lives in Spain in a valley without electricity. All the houses in the valley use solar panels.

The other day she told me excitedly that the electric company was putting poles up the valley so everyone could get connected to the grid and get electricity.

I was surprised by her excitement because she is very green and solar is greener than grid electric. But then solar can be a pain in the ass if you don’t spend gobs of money on panels.

“So you are excited to get on the grid.” I said.

“Hell no!” She said. “I’m excited because I plan on buying all my neighbors’ panels at dirt cheap rates! Grid electricity is the past! Solar is the future!”

That’s the spirit. I agree with her. It may have looked like the electric company was bringing the valley into the present but I think the solar powered valley had leapfrogged the technology, going from candles to local solar and skipping the middle stage of grid electricity.

Just because the world around you is moving in one direction does not mean the world as a whole is moving in that direction. One isn’t better than the other but it is important to keep the perspective in mind.

Even though everyone around my mother is moving to the grid I think the world at large is moving towards solar electricity. My mother’s personal vision is in harmony with the world at large.

There are three things to consider in defining perspective:

1. Your personal perspective
2. The perspective of things immediately around you
3. The perspective of things at large

I find that if you have the courage and strength it is good to find the harmonies between points 1 and 3 and then stay true to them. In my mother’s case it is also going to save her a lot of money.

Point 2 is just passing and only worth paying attention to on a practical level. Being in harmony with point 2 at the expense of 1 and 3 can eventually leave you out of touch with yourself and the world. Being in harmony with 1 and 3 at the expense of 2 can make you a little unpopular in the short run but that about it.

Of course harmony between all three is great and the ultimate goal, but sometimes not possible because you are not in control. All this is just about perspective and not really about controlling the process.

America, Power and Mindless Control Mechanisms

Living in America is a wonderful thing if you are lucky enough (for lack of a better qualifier) to have access to money and never get in the cross hairs of the police.

It is an idyllic world where there is abundance.

Money can get you pretty much anything in America. And even if you are not be happy at least you’ll be sad a lot more comfortably.

And the police will leave you alone as long as you don’t get noticed. You will experience a wonderful freedom without any large scale corruption or danger.

The only problem is that we are not perfectly bland mannequins and thus there is a chance you will get noticed.

Once the police notice you and you are unfortunate enough to be sucked into their grip there is no end to the absolute powerlessness you can experience.

Lets say you accidentally run a stop sign while driving. Or you forget to go for a walk with your ID and just happen to appear suspicious. Or it may be something more serious.

Whatever it is once you are in the grip of the police you no longer are in control of your life. They control you. It is a very scary feeling.

There is no check or balance to the interaction. They rule it. The police now treat the population are a hostile enemy at war. When they walk up to a car, any car, they have their hands on their guns. Every person is considered a potential dangerous assassin.

Why is it that the police need to act like that? I interact with hundreds of people a day and have yet to find one who has threatened my life. I’m certainly an easier target than an armed and trained police officer.

But then again I don’t go around behaving like police officers. The best way to get a dog to bite you is to kick it.

The US is a strange duality. One minute you may be walking along in the land of the free. And another you may be face down on the sidewalk in a bone breaking arm lock because they stopped you and you were stupid enough to argue with their logic.

Some people say we live in a police state and others point out all the liberties we have as refutation. But in my opinion we have both. As long as you follow the rules you have total liberty. If you don’t then the consequences are brutal.

That may be great as long as the rules are good ones. But rules are made by people and people are not perfect.

How about the rule that you can be kept without legal counsel if arrested under the suspicion of terrorism. The police have no obligation to cooperate with your family or a lawyer. You can disappear until they decide to make you reappear.

That is a great rule when stopping a terrorist from blowing up a building. But it is pretty sucky for the vast majority of people who get arrested under this rule and are completely innocent. It destroys their lives. There are thousands of people being held under these conditions right now. They in turn have families whose lives have also been ripped apart.

I question the logic here.

On the one hand the US government feels justified to perform genocidal campaigns against whole nations, then they use the animosity that these actions create to justify their “defensive anti-terrorist” rules and activities that are just as bad as their original actions.

Basically it is a circle where the US aggressively hurts people who get angry and in return want to hurt the US. Then under the pretense of “defense” the US justifies hurting more people.

It is pure stupidity. It is a low level of awareness that is narrow minded and ignorant.
