Parrots in Brooklyn

It is so cool that Brooklyn has lots of parrots who escaped from captivity and are now thriving in large parrot communities here.
Why there are almost only Quaker parrots I am not sure, probably because they are very hearty and smart - able to survive the winter and avoid predators.

The fact that they are called Quakers and are not native has a nice symmetry to the humans who called themselves Quakers and who were also not native to this land. But both groups I think add serenity and beauty.

If the birds were called “Catholics”, you could still make the association that they are both not indigenous but then you’re talking murderous conquistadors, which just isn’t the same :)
